Lending, splitting and settling — in one place
Back to zero.
Totalia remembers who owes you and who you owe — the ₹500 you lent last Tuesday, the dinner you covered, this month’s rent. Then it works out the fewest payments that make everyone square.
- Free, and no ads
- Rupees, made for India
- Never touches your money
Why it’s different
Money between two people and money in a group are separate. Totalia is the app that treats them that way.
You lent Raj ₹1,000 in March. In June you both went to Goa with four friends. Every other app quietly cancels one against the other, and then nobody can explain the number on the screen. Totalia keeps two tallies, because that is how you actually think about it.
Between you two
Private. Only you and Raj can see it.
- Cash you lent₹1,000
- He paid for petrol−₹240
Raj owes you ₹760
Goa Trip
Shared with all six people in the group.
- Hotel, you paid₹12,000
- Your share of everything−₹13,400
You owe the group ₹1,400
Settling one leaves the other exactly where it was. And when the loan really was part of the trip, you can file it into the group — then it nets there, and only there. Your call, never a surprise.
What it does
Everything shared money needs. Nothing it doesn’t.
One ledger underneath, so a loan, a group dinner and a repayment are the same kind of thing and always add up.
Lend and borrow
₹200 for chai or ₹20,000 for a deposit — write it down once and stop keeping it in your head.
Split any way you like
Equally, by exact amounts, or leaving people out. Spare paise go to whoever the rounding shortchanged, never to the same person twice.
Settle in the fewest payments
Six friends, one trip, one round of payments. Totalia finds the shortest route — you may pay someone you never borrowed from, and everyone ends square.
Add anyone, instantly
Type a name, or pick them out of your contacts. They don't need the app — add their number and the whole history is waiting for them the day they sign up.
Type it in plain English
“dinner 1200 split with Raj and Priya, I paid” becomes a filled-in entry. You confirm it before anything is saved.
Photograph the bill
Point your camera at a restaurant receipt and the total, the date and the description come across on their own.
Only what it needs
A phone number to sign in — that’s it. No bank login, no UPI access, no ads, no trackers, and nothing sold on to anybody. Import from your contacts if you like: only the people you tick are ever sent, and the rest of your address book stays on your phone.
How it works
Three steps, and you never have to bring it up again.
The awkward part of shared money isn’t the maths — it’s having to remember, and then having to ask. Totalia does the first so you rarely need the second.
- 1
Write it down
Money you lent, a bill you covered, rent everyone owes. Add the people by name — they don't need to be on Totalia.
- 2
Watch it add up
One screen for what you're owed and what you owe, with every group and every person kept on its own line.
- 3
Settle up
Totalia works out who should pay whom so it takes the fewest payments. Pay however you already pay, then tap Settle.
Settling up
Six debts. Two payments.
After a weekend away, four people owe each other in every direction. Paying it back one debt at a time means six transfers and six chances to forget one. Totalia nets the whole thing down to the shortest set of payments that leaves everybody square.
What everyone owes
Six separate debts, ₹3,500 changing hands.
- RajpaysAnu₹700
- RajpaysPriya₹500
- RajpaysAnkit₹400
- AnkitpaysAnu₹1,300
- AnupaysPriya₹400
- PriyapaysAnkit₹200
What Totalia asks you to pay
Two transfers, ₹2,300, and it’s done.
- RajpaysAnu₹1,600
- AnkitpaysPriya₹700
Ankit pays Priya, though he never borrowed from her — in fact she owed him ₹200. That is the point: fewer payments for exactly the same result, and every original debt stays on the record where you can check it.

The things people ask first.
Can I download Totalia yet?
Not from the store, not quite. Totalia is in closed testing on Android, which means the app is finished and being used every day, but the Play listing only opens for people on the tester list. Email hello@totalia.cc with the Google account on your phone and we will add you.
Is Totalia free?
Yes. The whole app is free, there are no ads, and nothing is behind a paywall.
Does the other person need the app?
No. Type a name and start recording — the balance is yours to keep either way. Add their number as well and, whenever they do sign up, the entire shared history is already there on their side, with no importing or re-typing.
How do I sign in?
With your phone number. We text you a six-digit code and that is the whole process — there is no password to choose, forget or have stolen. Your number is also how a friend's entries find you when you join.
Does Totalia upload my contacts?
Only the ones you tick. When you import a friend, your phone shows you your address book and Totalia sends us just the people you selected — name and number. The rest never leaves your phone, and you can skip the importer entirely and type a name instead.
Does Totalia move my money?
Never. It has no access to your bank, your UPI or your cards, and it cannot make a payment. Totalia keeps the score; you settle however you already do — UPI, cash, bank transfer.
Why does it ask me to pay someone I never borrowed from?
Because it is fewer payments for the same result. If you owe Priya ₹500 and Priya owes Ankit ₹500, you paying Ankit directly clears all three of you in one go instead of two. The full history stays visible, so you can always see where a figure came from.
Can I use it for rent and bills with flatmates?
That is one of the things it is best at. Make a group for the flat, add the rent, the electricity bill and the groceries as they happen, and at the end of the month everyone sees one number and one payment.
I lent a friend money, and we're also in a group together. What happens?
Nothing, unless you say so. A private loan and a group are separate tallies and never cancel each other out. If the loan really was part of the trip, you can file it into that group — then it nets there, and only there.
What if someone adds an entry I don't agree with?
Flag it. The entry stays on record with your note attached, and whoever added it can fix it or explain. Nothing is silently changed behind your back, and nothing is silently deleted.
Which currency does it use?
Indian rupees. Totalia is built for India first, so amounts are in ₹ and are stored to the paisa — the splits are exact, not rounded off.
Stop keeping it in your head.
Totalia is free, has no ads, and takes about a minute to start using.
Right now Totalia is in closed testing on Android. The app is finished and in daily use — the Play listing is just still private, so it opens for testers only.
